0.3.0 is out!

New release, new versioning schemes, and a larger team now that NiceSlice is joining in!

What’s new?

  • A brand new tileset and a new mansion layout. Did you know that C. J. Richardson released “The Englishman’s House” in 1871? Well I do, because I had to skim through it to get an idea what mansions actually looked like.
  • Graphics actually look pixel art now instead of being a blurry mess (it’s embarrassing enough that slipped through, but it’s fixed at least!)
  • More changes to the lighting system (to be further improved), for now one that generates shadows that give the illusion of there being three-dimensional walls.
  • Quality of life fixes - e.g. walls become transparent when behind them.
  • A new placeholder character sprite, courtesy of the Universal LPC Spritesheet Generator
  • Basic objective UI system, at least for now until story elements are added that make the UI less needed.

Expect glitches and imperfections, but things will get ironed out in time. :)

Currently intending the next major version to be a sound overhaul update, primarily to avoid being able to hear walking sounds through walls/doors. Since audio is such an important part of the game having more 3D (2D?) sound is something that should be done early.

If you’d like to see a teaser of the new changes, see the short gameplay video below:
